Wild Things Rules the WB Panel

The Warner Bros. panel just ended. My initial responses, briefly, since I’m cruising back over to the Convention Center from the oasis that is the Wired Cafe:

  • Where the Wild Things Are is a movie you can feel with your eyes closed.
  • Max Records, who plays Max in Wild Things, could host a panel by himself. Actually, wait, he pretty much did!
  • I don’t know if The Book of Eli will be a huge hit, but it looks to be a genre-fan pleaser and will give Denzel street cred that he doesn’t even need.
  • Can Mila Kunis become the next Angelina? Hollywood is certainly trying.
  • Samuel Bayer compared his A Nightmare on Elm Street to The Dark Knight. Seriously.
  • Good thingJackie Earle Haley was present to stoke the crowd, who went silent at the aforementioned remark. Plus, the screened footage was quite effective.
  • It was near-silent when Richard Kelly arrived on stage to screen footage from The Box; I think the fate of this film is in the hands of WB, and the fans, of course. Good luck, Cameron!
  • Unsure how many Weird Western Tales fans were present for the Jonah Hex panel, but the lukewarm reaction to the exclusive footage was tempered by the amusing and cuddly-surly presence of Josh Brolin, who engaged fans in a manner that should inspire Megan Fox to take some mental notes
  • Robert Downey Jr. is King Con for two years running; Sherlock Holmes should keep him on the A-list and resuscitate the careers of both Guy Rtichie and Jude Law. Is this the most entertaining movie we’ll see this winter?
